Last week was a great start to a busy term at the Stepping Stones Core group. We have lots planned this term including Recycle and Sew, Mini Childcare taster course, Peer education and the REHIS Food and Health. We also have our community policeman coming in to talk about personal safety.
Recycle and sew
Our Wardieburn group have got started on their recycle and sew course. This gives our parents the chance to recycle their children’s old clothes into something new for their children. The Muirhouse group took part in this course last year and made cushions, soft toys and even a snake for their children.
Mini childcare taster
This week we have Barbara from North Edinburgh Childcare starting a four week Mini Childcare taster course. This course provides an introduction to managing children’s behaviour, the promotion of language development in children including the use of story sacks, play and physical development and listening and communication.
Over the next couple of months our core group will complete peer education training which will equip them with the skills to be able to deliver a workshop on ‘The realities of being a young parent’ to S4 pupils at two local high schools.
Our Introductory Groups also have a busy group work programme planned with visits from our local community police officers, Cooking family meals on a budget and two sessions based on ‘making your home child safe’ with one looking at ‘what’s under your kitchen sink?’ and other focusing on childhood burns and scalds.
