The playroom is available for parents who attend our weekly group work sessions. The aim of the playroom is to provide a safe and stimulating environment following the Pre-Birth to Three document and Curriculum for Excellence. We are registered for children aged 0-5 years with 14 spaces at Wardieburn and 8 spaces at Muirhouse Millennium Centre. As the ages of the children are mixed between 0-5 years we believe it is important to operate on a high ratio of one adult to three children..
The Early Years Team are qualified and registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) and undertake a PVG check which ensures their suitability for working with children.
Kimberley Torrance is Early Years Manager and has nearly 20 years experience working with children aged 0-5. The play practitioners consist of Pamela Ross who has worked at the project for 4 years and gained her qualification in August 2013. Tina Miller who joined us in October 2014 after having worked in the private nursery sector and Mubarra Hamid recently joined us and is in the process of completing her SVQ Level 3.
During a 2 hour session the children have the opportunity to gain new play experiences and explore a variety of activities both indoors and outdoors including messy play, free play, group activities, songs and stories. The children are provided with a small snack and offered a selection of fruit with crackers, bread or rice cakes with milk or water to drink.
